Primates used in research may be housed
alone in bare, metal cages, often for many
years. They are subjected to procedures
such as surgery or ingestion of toxic substances
that cause them distress, pain, and
suffering. Because of the ways in which these animals
are different from humans and because of the unnatural
conditions under which they must live, the
value of such research is questionable at best.
